M. W. Knives Guarantee, Warranty & Return Policy – Handmade Knives in Kentucky
At M. W. Knives, I design and build custom handmade knives in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Every hunting knife, kitchen knife, and EDC knife is crafted for a specific purpose using premium steels and handle materials. My promise is simple: if your MWKnives blade fails due to a defect in materials or craftsmanship during normal use, I will make it right.
Warranty Coverage – M. W. Knives Handmade Knife Guarantee
Your MWKnives purchase is backed by a lifetime warranty against:
- Defects in materials – including carbon steel, stainless steel, Damascus, Micarta, G10, stabilized hardwoods, and other premium materials
- Workmanship flaws – any structural or assembly failure caused during the making of the knife
- Full repair or replacement when the issue is the fault of materials or craftsmanship under normal intended use
Each knife is designed for a specific purpose — whether field dressing game, prepping food, or everyday carry — and tested before it leaves my Kentucky workshop.
What the M. W. Knives Warranty Does Not Cover
Knives are purpose-built tools. Damage caused by misuse, abuse, or neglect is not covered under warranty. Examples include:
- Using knives for prying, twisting, or as screwdrivers
- Chopping bone or wood with knives not intended for that purpose (e.g., using a chef’s knife outdoors)
- Throwing knives or striking hard surfaces
- Rust, corrosion, or pitting from lack of cleaning and oiling
- Modifying or altering the knife after purchase
Exotic & Limited-Edition Materials
Some MWKnives products feature rare or exotic materials such as spalted burl wood, stabilized hardwoods, or patterned Damascus steel that can cost hundreds of dollars to source.
- If a warranty replacement is required and the exact material is unavailable, I will use the closest equal or similar option on hand.
- In cases of misuse, all replacement costs — including exotic materials — are the customer’s responsibility.
Drop & Impact Damage
Accidents happen — a knife slips, falls, or hits a hard surface. While I understand these moments aren’t intentional, drops and impacts are beyond my control as the maker. Such events can cause:
- Chipped or broken blade tips
- Cracked or broken handles
- Bent spines or edge damage
These are not covered under warranty.
If a knife is damaged from a drop or impact, you have two repair options:
- Original Material Replacement – Same or closest match material/blade repair at customer’s cost
- Durable Replacement – For handles, I can fit a high-strength Micarta or G10 at no additional cost (color may vary)
For tips on preventing accidental damage, see the Knife Care Guide.
Knife Care – Protect Your Investment
Every M. W. Knife order includes a printed knife care sheet with step-by-step instructions for cleaning, oiling, and safe storage. A virtual copy is always available on the M. W. Knives Knife Care page so you can access it anytime. Following these guidelines is essential for keeping your knife in top condition and maintaining warranty coverage.
